Vivid Color Secrets and The Rainbow Convention with Jordan Yanatos

11/17/2024

Vivid hair is taking the beauty world by storm, transforming the way we think about color and self-expression. Stylists like Jordan Yanatos are pushing creative boundaries and redefining what it means to work with bold, vibrant colors.

If you grew up experimenting with Kool-Aid and Manic Panic in your hair, your not alone. For Jordan, these early experiments sparked a lifelong passion for vivid color, shaping her career as a stylist.

While Jordan always loved makeup and hair, she initially pursued a different path. After earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal law and beginning her first year in law school, she realized she was destined for something else.

For the past 14 years, Jordan has specialized in vivid hair, building her reputation through her work at various salons and creating spaces like the Mermaid Lounge and Creative Collective Studios.

Many still view vivid colors as high-maintenance or costly, but Jordan’s goal is to prove that with the right techniques, vivid hair can be just as accessible and manageable as any other color.

“I’m more excited about beating the misconceptions that are like ‘hey it actually isn’t as high maintenance as you think, it doesn’t have to be as expensive as you think’, and I think most stylists want this to be accessible because we really enjoy doing it”

Jordan highlights the importance of fostering a community of passionate, like-minded professionals, with a focus on mentorship. She believes that learning from peers – both younger and older – is key, as there is always something new to learn in the ever-evolving beauty industry.

“What I want to impart onto younger stylists is that beauty school teaches you how to pass the state board exam. Doing hair teaches you how to do hair because all of the little things that make every client different are never going to be the same; They are like snowflakes. So its not until you get in the field and really start making mistakes that you learn from those mistakes”

Her work goes beyond just color transformations; it’s about education and community.

With the launch of The Rainbow Convention, Jordan is creating a space for stylists to gather, learn, and grow in the world of vivid color. The convention aims to break down the barriers of education by providing a specialized platform for stylists to expand their skills in vivid techniques, alternative, hair, and more.

Be sure to tune in to hear what Jordan has in store for the 2025 Rainbow Convention—it’s one you won’t want to miss!
