These Danger Jones Products Were Key to Creating Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s New Cowboy Copper Color for the 2025 Oscars

03/03/2025

It’s been one year since Da’Vine Joy Randolph won her first-ever Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her incredible performance in The Holdovers.

The actress made her grand return to the 2025 Oscars stage as a presenter for the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor and naturally, she totally killed it on the red carpet. Looking like the queen she is, Randolph looked radiant in a glittering black gown complete with a sheer cape. To complete the glamourous look, her locks were styled in an ultra-sleek cropped cut. While we loved her hair look overall, we were completely enamored by her beautiful new cowboy copper hair color.

The mastermind behind her brilliant color transformation was none other than celebrity colorist Tai Simon, who used Danger Jones Gloss Toners as well as Powder Lighteners to craft the smoldering caramel copper hue.  Speaking on the inspiration for Randolph’s color, Simon shared, “For a night as special as tonight, we wanted to go for a classic dazzling starlet look with a sultry edge. Juxtaposing her gorgeous jeweled gown with a sleek cowboy copper cut to bring the enhanced classic silhouette even more modern.” She added, “I worked with Danger Jones Gloss Toners to bring her hair color to life which was a dream to work with in bringing vibrancy and shine with ease.”

Considering how in love we are with Randolph’s look, we made sure to get all the details from Simon on how she achieved her stunning copper color using Danger Jones products. Keep scrolling for all the details.

Get the Look:

  1. To lift this edgy look to our desired smoldering cowboy copper finish, Simon utilized Danger Jones 20 Vol Deluxe Crème Developer & Powder Lightener with Bonding Complex in a bleach wash with a protective shampoo to keep the unit’s bonds in pristine condition while lifting two levels. (Love Tip: healthy extensions matter!!)
  2. After thoroughly emulsifying the bleach wash and ensuring even coverage from root to end, she let it process for 40 minutes.
  3. After processing, Simon began to wash with shampoo and cold water only, combing through and patting dry until the hair is damp for depositing a 1:1 mix of tones 7-4 copper and 4-4 copper of Danger Jones Gloss Toners & 6 Vol Gloss Toner Developer to achieve this custom color dream. Blending these tones creates shadows, depth and dimension, ensuring a rich, natural-looking finish.
  4. With just a 10-minute processing time (plus an extra 4 minutes for good measure), she then washed, conditioned, and let the hair fully dry before styling.
