Today was the kick off of the fourth-annual Texture Vs. Race Summit, founded by hairstylist and DEI consultant to brands Keya Neal. With a mission of tackling the industry’s long-standing textural discrimination problem and teaching stylists that hair is a fabric everyone can work with, the TVR Summit ’22 isn’t shying away from “sensitive” topics. Keya opened with “people don’t change… they choose” and an invitation to attendees to choose to do the work of building a salon professional industry that’s more diverse, equitable and inclusive.
In the spirit of choosing to be better, we’re sharing 5 of Keya’s rules of engagement for the TVR Summit ’22 that are actually applicable in all aspects of life!
- Be Respectful
- Be Open
- Listen Before Speaking
- Ask for Clarity Before Responding
- Be Vulnerable
