Rena Calhoun on Getting ‘as Much Shine as Possible’ for Nava Mau’s ’24 Emmys Hairstyle

09/15/2024

“Baby Reindeer” star, actress and filmmaker, Nava Mau stunned on the ’24 Emmys red carpet. Wearing a custom, fire engine red gown with a liquid effect by Gigi Goode, Mau’s hair, done by celebrity hairstylist Rena Calhoun, was parted dramatically at the center with equal shine. The look screamed “drama,” so naturally we had to know everything!

Calhoun said, “For Nava’s look this evening I was really inspired by the gown itself. I wanted to reflect the beautiful shine in the dress that almost feels liquid. The key for me today was to get as much shine in the hair as possible.” She added, “The look has a center part that makes it feel modern, and it’s tucked behind the ears on both sides to keep it feeling fresh and showcase her beautiful bone structure.”

Read on for a how-to from Calhoun, featuring exclusively Bumble and bumble. styling products so you can get Nava Mau’s look.

Get the Look:

  1. “Nava is very keen on keeping her hair healthy. I started by prepping her with the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer to protect her hair from high heat styling.
  2. Then, I blow dried her hair section by section using a brush to smooth and create shine. For that added glossy effect I pumped two pumps of Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil into the palms of my hand and very gently ran it through from mids to ends and tucked both sides behind the ears.
  3. Finally, for all night hold, I finished the look with Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode Hairspray.”
