Impossible to deny it. Heidi Montag is having a moment. A staggering 15 years after her debut album Superficial dropped, Montag’s song “I’ll Do It” is officially viral — simultaneously soundtracking the maybe end of TikTok and living through wildfires that destroyed thousands of structures, including Montag’s own home.
The video for “I’ll Do It,” presumably shot in anticipation of the album’s anniversary, was just released and Montag looks every bit the modern pop star. The video has a sense of humor, playing with “sexy” music video archetypes — Montag is a latex-outfitted nurse at one point. But there’s nothing funny about her hair by Nevada Raffaele. In the song Montag sings about “be[ing] your blonde tonight,” “letting down [her] hair,” and being a “schoolgirl in curls,” so it was exciting to see Raffaele deliver and three very different hairstyles that really work.
The Tease connected with Raffaele about the shoot and she was generous enough to answer some questions as well as share incredible BTS moments from the set. Scroll for more.
The Tease: When did the shoot happen and how did you get involved?
Nevada Rafaele: The shoot happened last month and was my last gig of 2024! I’ve had the pleasure with working with many members of the team previously (directors, stylist, MUA) — so it was a very creatively harmonious day.
What was on the mood board/inspiration for the 3 total hairstyles?
Rafaele: The mood board was a combination of office siren, cool girl and classic Hollywood waves. If you want me to share the references. The stylist had provided some references, but I always pull some of my own.
(Editor’s note: We got Rafaele’s actual reference images! See below.)
What products were key to bringing the looks together?
Raffaele: Luckily, Heidi’s hair is so beautiful and healthy — I didn’t have to do much work to keep the shine and quality in the hair. I used TIGI Queen For A Day for texture and grip at the roots — this is one of my all-time hero products that’s so versatile. And it supported me and doing three looks in one day. I love Paul Mitchell Hot Off The Press as my aerosol, thermal protectant. And I finished her ends with Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. I also used the Bumble and bumble. Does It All Hairspray.
Seeing the final music video, describe the hair in a few words.
Raffaele: Seeing the final product, the hair is versatile! I particularly loved our retro wave moment — I surprise myself with how quickly I was able to achieve that look. It was the last shot of the day. I really had to keep things moving. I like when hair looks done, but it’s still sexy and touchable (at least looks touchable, haha).
Heidi’s music is going viral now, 15 years after her debut “Superficial,” thanks in large part to fans wanting to help her recover from the fires. How are you feeling about the response and attention?
Raffaele: Fortunately, I was outside of Los Angeles during the worst of the wildfires. It was really cool to see LA and the international community rally behind victims of this devastating wild fire. It was my first time working with Heidi, but her down to earth kindness was a very apparent.
I was really proud of my team for helping me do the hairstyles for the background dancers as well. It was a really special community that came together to make this project happen.
