Musée des Arts Décoratifs and Wella Company Team Up on New Exhibit Exploring Hair and Grooming

01/27/2023

Hair lovers will have something extra exciting to look forward to this spring. Wella Company has partnered with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris on a brand new exhibition called Des Cheveux et des Poils (Hair & Hairs)

The exhibit, which runs from April 5th, 2023 to September 17th, 2023 will explore how hairstyles and the grooming of human hair have contributed to the construction of appearances for centuries. As stated in the exhibit’s press release, “Hair is an essential aspect of one’s identity and has often been used as a means of expressing our adherence to a fashion, a conviction, or a protest while invoking much deeper meanings such as femininity, virility, and negligence, to name just a few.”

Through the 600 works featured in the exhibit—dating from the 15th century to the present day—attendees will be able to explore the themes inherent in the history of hairstyles as well as questions related to facial and bodily hair. Many of the works featured will highlight the trades and skills of yesterday and today’s most iconic figures including: Leonard Autier (favorite hairdresser of Marie Antoineete), Monsieur Antoine, the Carita sisters, Alexandre de Paris, and more recently studio hairdressers. Some of the biggest names in contemporary fashion such as Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, and Josephus Thimister will also be spotlighted along with their spectacular creations made from hair.

For Wella Company this exhibition and partnership with the distinguished Musée des Arts Décoratifs marks their first ever global showcase. Throughout the exhibit, you’ll be able to spot some of the company’s noteworthy contributions across products, services, and tools including: archival hair tools like the first hair dryers with built-in motors, historic marketing materials for products, and never-before-seen work by Wella Professional Global Creative Artist Alexis Ferre.

If you happen to be in Paris this spring, be sure to stop by and check out the exhibit at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. Tickets will be available for purchase on the museum’s website
