Magic Sleek Just Became the First Haircare Brand to Be Approved by the FDA, OSHA, and the EU—Here’s Why This Matters

01/16/2025

When it comes to achieving flawlessly straight, sleek hair for your clients, Magic Sleek is one haircare brand that hair pros can count on to deliver incredible results — without the use of toxic or harmful ingredients like formaldehyde.

In fact, the brand, which is known for its innovative hair straightening treatments, recently announced that it is the first and only haircare brand on the market to have been approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and European Union (EU).

As a brand, Magic Sleek has set itself apart by prioritizing safety, transparency, and effectiveness. While so many hair straightening treatments on the market may contain potentially harmful or irritating ingredients, the brand’s products are formulated with a focus on clean, sustainable alternatives. This makes them a safer and more environmentally conscious choice for consumers and stylists hoping to achieve smoother hair without fear of potential health risks.

“At Magic Sleek, our mission has always been to provide a safer, healthier alternative in the hair industry,” said Olga Isakov, founder and CEO of Magic Sleek. “I’m deeply committed to ensuring that our hair products not only deliver exceptional results but also meet the highest safety standards. We’re proud to be the only hair treatment brand that is fully compliant with FDA, OSHA, and EU regulations, offering customers peace of mind along with beautifully smooth, manageable hair.”

For Magic Sleek, navigating the rigorous approval processes of the FDA, OSHA, and EU required extensive research, development, and testing. The brand’s dedicated team overcame numerous obstacles to ensure that Magic Sleek not only met but exceeded the stringent requirements. Their relentless pursuit of excellence has resulted in products that are both revolutionary and safe for all hair types—including textured, bleached, damaged, and chemically-treated hair.

The Hidden Dangers of Chemical Hair Straighteners

This announcement from the brand comes at a time of rising alarm and concern over the health effects of hair straighteners. Reports of formaldehyde-releasing hair smoothing treatments resulting in hair loss and chemical burns, among other side effects have become widely shared. Not to mention, in 2022, researchers at the National Institutes of Health released a study that showed an increased risk of uterine cancer in women who have used these products on their hair—a finding that’s especially concerning for Black women who are more likely to use such products including chemical relaxers, keratin treatments, and other hair straighteners.

OSHA has found that some hair smoothing products may contain formaldehyde, may release formaldehyde at levels above permissible limits during use, and may be mislabeled—all of which can pose health risks. Based on air testing and product sampling, OSHA, the FDA, and department of health agencies in various states across the US have issued warnings to manufacturers that violated rules for formaldehyde labeling or have issued health warnings to salons and consumers about formaldehyde in hair smoothing products. In April of last year, the FDA considered proposing a ban of formaldehyde in hair straightening products, which has since been delayed

As far as hair straighteners go, Magic Sleek represents a paradigm shift in haircare, offering a solution that combines beauty, safety, and convenience. To learn more about Magic Sleek, be sure to follow @magicsleek on Instagram.
