Joanna Simkin Spills on Cynthia Erivo’s 2025 Golden Globes Glam

01/06/2025

No surprise, ‘Wicked’ star Cynthia Erivo stunned on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet looking fresh-faced as ever with a strong af eye thanks to celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin.

Of the glam, Simikin said, “Cynthia’s dress inspired our look tonight. The silhouette and sparkles were so striking, I wanted her to look soft and fresh, with sultry eyes and soft lips. A true ‘movie star’ moment.” Needing to know everything, The Tease reached out to Simkin for more. She graciously answered the quickest of Q&As and provided us with the steps she took to get the look. Read on!

The Tease: What’s your favorite part of the look?

Joanna Simkin: Cynthia’s overall glow is my favorite part of the look. In order to create a flawless complexion that still looks fresh, I love full-coverage concealer in the center of the face, buffed out to melt together with a sheerer formula like a skin tint. Benefit Boi-Ing concealer gives a flawless finish without any caking.

What’s your favorite red-carpet makeup trick?

Simkin: I like to brighten and set the middle of the face — concentrating any coverage there, while using the sheerest formulas towards the outside of face for a seamless blend towards the neck. Setting the face is a must, and Benefit PoreFessional Super Setter is my favorite setting spray.

Keep scrolling for the detailed breakdown directly from Simkin featuring exactly which Benefit Cosmetics products she used for Erivo’s Golden Globes red carpet appearance.

Get the Look:

  1. First, Simkin prepped Erivo’s skin with The POREfessional Matte Primer ($35.00) to prime her base and blur her pores. Simkin focused the product on the center of Erivo’s cheeks for perfectly blurred and mattified skin.
  2. Next, she used Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer ($28.00) in shades 12, 15 & 17 on Erivo’s under eyes and face to create a full coverage look on the red carpet.
  3. To bronze, Simkin used the iconic Hoola Bronzer ($36.00) in the Toasted around the perimeters of Erivo’s face to bronze up her skin and add dimension.
  4. Next, Simkin used Benefit’s Terra blush ($33.00) to add a golden brick-red flush onto Erivo’s cheeks, focusing on the high points of her cheeks.
  5. For highlighter, Simkin dabbed a few dots of Benefit’s High Beam ($26.00) to add a satin-like finish to Erivo’s cheekbones, making her look super radiant on the red carpet!
  6. To make sure Cynthia’s makeup stayed in place, Simkin dusted Benefit’s The POREfessional Power Powder ($38.00) all over her face to blur pores, set her makeup and mattify her skin for 16-hour long wear.
  7. For Erivo’s eyes, Simkin used the BADgal BANG 24-HR Eye Pencil ($24.00) in Pitch Black to line her waterline and used Roller Liner ($24.00) in Black to create a cat-eye wing that finished the eyes with a strong look.
  8. For lashes, Simkin used BADgal BANG Waterproof mascara ($29.00) to lift and add dramatic volume.
  9. To lock in the entire look, Simkin used The POREfessional Super Setter ($35.00) to keep Erivo’s makeup looking radiant and skin looking blurred all night long (with 16-hour long wear!).
