Jerrod Roberts Channeled 90s ‘Power Bobs’ for Hannah Einbinder’s HRC LA Gala Hairstyle

03/25/2025

Hacks star, comedian and activist Hannah Einbinder was awarded the “Visibility Award” at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Los Angeles Gala and used every second of her acceptance speech to speak truth to power. Einbinder began by thanking “queer elders” for their sacrifice, and, in honoring them, addressed climate change as “the single most pressing issue of our time,” laying blame at the feet of the CEOs of fossil fuel and agricultural companies for polluting and warming the planet.

Einbinder invoked her queerness and Judaism in saying, “it should not be controversial to say that we should all be against murdering civilians,” in reference to the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza. She also took time to criticize the US government’s arrest and detainment of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil without due process. In the end she said, “All struggles for liberation will be won by loudly opposing corporations who fuel the destruction of our planet and the institutions that fuel mass death of our fellow human beings. Visibility is responsibility. Those of us with a platform must use our voices to ensure that speaking out is not outlawed all together.”

It was one hell of a speech and she looked incredible while giving it. Her hair, a coppery long bob, was styled perfectly with just the right amount of body to signal political hair without giving hairspray helmet. We have celebrity hairstylist and Einbinder’s longtime collaborator Jerrod Roberts to thank.

Speaking exclusively with The Tease, Roberts says, “We wanted her to feel powerful going into that speech. Power bobs of the 90s is our current inspo.” He added, “Lots of Christy Turlington on the moodboard lately.”

  1. “In her wet hair I used the Rōz ROOT Lift Spray and Shu Uemura Tsuki Shape Blowdry Spray, applying it evenly in 1” – 1 1/2” sections, all over the head. I blew it out straight with a small/medium round brush.
  2. After it was blown out, I took her hair in 4 or 5 big sections, heated the ends with the blowdryer and round brush and rolled the ends around medium sized Velcro rollers (from Trademark Beauty) but only rolled them one full turn, letting them hang around the perimeter.
  3. I sprayed it all with R+Co Outerspace Hairspray, and let the rollers cool down.
  4. After taking [the curlers] out and brushing it out, I went back and finished her bangs with a curling iron as well as going into the front two sections by her face with the 1 1/2” iron so that the ends had a more pronounced c-shape towards the face.
  5. To finish I applied a coat of IGK Mistress Hydrating Balm over her hair for shine and flyaway control.”
