Issa Rae isn’t just rooting for the Black community, she’s investing in the community too!
On Sept. 24th, the actress announced that she would be signing on as the new face and co-owner of Sienna Naturals, an all-natural Black-owned hair brand. According to reports, Rae will be teaming up with current CEO and founder Hannah Diop to help with relaunching the Los Angeles-based brand. Under the duo’s partnership, fans can expect larger product sizes, affordable prices, and updated packaging.
Shortly following the announcement, Sienna Naturals shared a sneak peak of their new branding on Instagram with a post captioned, “We’re approaching countdown territory. Make sure you’re on the waitlist so you don’t miss out on securing your new wash day ritual.”
Rae’s entry into the hair space should come as no surprise to anyone. She’s pretty much secured her place as the resident natural hair queen, with her ever-changing natural hairstyles. Not to mention, whether she’s on her hit HBO show, Insecure, or walking the red carpet, the actress always rocks her curls with confidence.
According to the star, the partnership was a no brainer as she’s been a long-time admirer of the brand and its founder.
“I’ve known Hannah for a long time, and I got to see the brand evolve from her home. It’s expanded so much beyond that. The care and the research that has gone into this natural, safe, healthy brand, I knew that I wanted to be involved,” Rae shared in a statement. “We got coerced into manipulating our hair into styles not right for us, or using damaging products. I have an opportunity to make hair care digestible via my sense of humor, my openness to my own hair struggle journey.”
For Diop, the admiration is mutual. The hair entrepreneur spoke highly of Rae’s support for Black creators and her unique personal style.
“I have always admired Issa’s ability to bring a spark and light into a project. Issa is a trailblazer and stays true to her roots and dedication to Black creators. Her looks are authentic and she fully embraces all styles you can accomplish with textured hair,” she said. “Sienna Naturals is not a company that is telling you how to wear your hair. We believe in empowering our customers to be who they really are and have a product that supports them. Issa’s ever-changing style embodies the brand’s purpose and we can not wait to take this next step with her.”
