Elevate Your Business with These Essential 101s

07/31/2024

When the business side of the beauty industry sparked a passion just like the color and cut did, Hunter Donia knew he had to pursue both fully.

Hunter is a digital educator teaching beauty professionals all things tech, implementation, automation and process elevation in their business and more. He has reached nearly 1,000 beauty professionals, helping them navigate and grow the business side of their passions.

“I got into education because I loved being able to give the gift to other hairstylists that I had received from other educators in the past. The amount of inspiration, transformation, and growth that came from me experiencing that– to be able to be trained and have the privilege to further move that on and pass that on was amazing.”

Hunter was recognized as the youngest up-and-coming hair colorist in 2020 and has brought his insights and passion to conference stages across the nation.

Drawn to the allure of Clubhouse, Hunter found a new passion for engaging in insightful and captivating conversations with fellow beauty lovers. This led to the launch of his podcast, The Modern Hairstylist, where he shares knowledge and advice for stylists who want to take their business to the next level.

With being diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, Hunter discovered that his love for beauty and ADHD complemented each other. To best navigate his ADHD, he implements systems that hold him accountable for the work that needs to be done, systems that are crucial in the hair business. Systems that we all can benefit from to ensure the work we put out is the best of the best.

“The cool thing about ADHD and hairdressing is that there is another human holding you accountable. There is an appointment, there is a person in your chair, you have to bring the person from A to B no matter what. It forces you to focus.”

Hunter’s passion for beauty truly blossomed through his high school’s cosmetology vocational program. He overcame stigmas and misconceptions surrounding his goals, fueling his dedication to spreading education and reducing these false narratives surrounding the beauty world.

“As I was exploring my identity, I started to color my hair, wear makeup and do my nails. I became really passionate about it. I thought it was really beautiful that I was able to express myself on the outside like how I wanted to in the moment.”

“Because of the stigma. Because of the misunderstanding and lack of education that is available to us, particularly on the business side within the industry, it causes all of that type of worry and stigma to be amplified.”

In season three episode seven of Volume Up by The Tease, Hunter shares tips on setting boundaries, fighting burnout, creating the hype and more in the beauty industry.

“As our titles evolve and our responsibilities rise, we are adapting with the way that we are approaching those things as much as possible to streamline it, to make it as easy as possible.”

For stylists looking to elevate their talent and grow their businesses, this is an episode you don’t want to miss.
