Dyson Debuts First-Ever Hair Care Line, Dyson Chitosan — and New Bluetooth-Friendly Airwrap Styler

08/19/2024

Since making its first foray into the hair industry in 2016, with the launch of the now iconic Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, Dyson has been a pioneering force in the hair tools category. Over the last few years, the brand has continued to push the boundaries of innovation in the hair tools category, bringing forth one game-changing creation after another—the Airwrap, Airstrait, Corrale, and most recently, the Supersonic r and Supersonic Nural.

After completely revolutionizing the world of hair tools, Dyson is now set to do the same in haircare with the release of its first-ever styling product line called Dyson Chitosan.

Introducing the Dyson Chitosan™ Formulations Range

Designed to work alongside its air-centric styling tools, Dyson’s new haircare line currently consists of two products: the Chitosan Pre-Style Cream and the Chitosan Post-Style Serum, with each priced at $59.99. Both formulas contain chitosan, a “complex macromolecule” that is derived from oyster mushrooms and works to deliver an all-day, flexible hold to the hair.

“Whilst some other styling products use simple polymers that stick the strands of hair together like glue, Dyson’s formulas work differently,” said James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer. “When used in Dyson Chitosan™ formulas, the complex macromolecule helps create flexible bonds that support hair strand by strand, for 2x the hold, with movement and shine.”

Additionally, both products are also engineered with the Dyson’s “triodetic technology,” which locks in styles through a lightweight structure of bonds that “allow hair to move, flex,  and recall its style, in unison with the rest, resulting in flexible all-day hold, even in high humidity,” per the brand.

Suitable for all hair types, the Dyson Chitosan range aims to help your styles and blow dries last longer, while also contributing to the health of your hair. For its part, the Chitosan Pre-Style Cream is designed to fight frizz and keep hair looking extra-shiny, thanks to its formula which contains a blend of castor, argan, grapeseed, and coconut oils as well as beeswax and heat protectants. Not to mention, it transforms into a serum when you work the formula into your hands, ensuring an even application and long-lasting hold. Plus, it’s available in four variants—spanning straight to wavy and curly to coily—that are precisely blended with ingredients tailored to different natural hair shapes and conditioning preferences.

As for the Chitosan Post-Style Serum, it’s designed to hold, hydrate, and define hairstyles for up to 12 hours, after drying and styling hair. Packed with a blend of amino acids as well as hyaluronic acid, this lightweight serum has the ability to protect against “up to 80% relative humidity.”

Both products come housed in refillable packaging that has been cleverly designed with a precision applicator that has been rigorously tested to deliver the same amount—an exact 0.22ml—every single time. This ensures that users know exactly how much they need for each product for their hair and helps to prevent product wastage and overuse.

“We want to take the guesswork out of styling,” Amy Johnson, head of education at Dyson, said, in a statement. “Overuse can weigh hair down and cause styles to lose shape prematurely. Because Dyson’s formula is highly concentrated, a little goes a long way. This system reduces the chance of error, allowing you to adjust the quantity until you find the right balance, ensuring consistent styling results.”

Meet the Airwrap i.d.™

Along with introducing their new haircare line, Dyson has launched their first connected device, the Airwrap i.d.™ multi-styler. Offering a more personalized styling experience, the Airwrap i.d. wirelessly connects to the MyDyson app on your phone via Bluetooth, allowing users to set a program with the i.d. curl™ —a personalized curling sequence developed by Dyson engineers that automates to work together with the tool’s attachments. The beauty of this personalized curling sequence is that it takes into consideration the user’s hair profile on the MyDyson app, which includes their hair type, length, texture, style retention, skill level, and styling goals. With just the push of a button, the i.d. curl™ carries out the three-step routine—wrapping, styling, and setting their curls—automatically.

“User feedback has shown that they appreciate convenience so for us, connectivity is about developing ways to help them get the very best out of Dyson machines. And the i.d. curl™ delivers the ease of use and a truly personalized journey and experience,” said Low Chen Nyeow, Associate Design Manager at Dyson Beauty. “The app guides users through each step, based on the user’s profile to make curling easier. Adjustable temperature settings change the high and low heat temperatures for thermal comfort, based on their personal preference and maintenance notifications reminders guide them to clean their filter. New attachments also reiterate how the styling tool is truly for all hair types and with no heat damage.”

The  Airwrap i.d.™ also values hair health and features Intelligent Heat Control to measure and regulate heat. By ensuring that temperature stays below 302°F, this device helps protect hair from heat damage.

Joining the Airwrap existing set of 16 attachments are three new attachments: a Conical barrel for creating tighter, and more defined curls; a Wave + Curl diffuser that enhances waves and curls through two different ways of airflow; and the Blade concentrator, which has more precise airflow for smoothing hair.

Retailing for $599, the Airwrap i.d.™ is available for purchase in a new Vinca Blue and Topaz, as well as Ceramic Patina and Topaz colorways.

The Dyson Airwrap i.d., along with its new attachments,  will be available for purchase at dyson.com beginning August 26.  To shop the Dyson Chitosan range, be sure to visit dyson.com or sephora.com. And for all things Dyson Beauty, make sure to follow @dysonbeauty on Instagram.
