Detox Your Hair Care Routine with Ingreendients

04/03/2023

The sustainability space can be a confusing place for the average beauty consumer. When the movement initially gained momentum, consumers fell victim to an increase in greenwashing — the process of using misleading or false information about a company’s operations and/or products to deceive customers and the public about their environmental impact.

For the beauty industry in particular, greenwashing can be found in in many forms. From changes in branding to added labels like “natural” or “organic,” which are largely ambiguous and don’t necessarily ensure that the products are healthier, safer, or better for you in any way.

As the FDA continues to turn a blind eye to these unregulated terms in the beauty industry, many of us have taken it upon ourselves to learn more about what’s really in our personal care products and source cleaner alternatives, which is how I stumbled upon Ingreendients Daily Shampoo ($22.95) and Conditioner ($22.95).

Responsible Hair Care With a Mission

Ingreendients is a tiny but mighty hair and body care line with a mission to say goodbye to greenwashing once and for all. “We are pioneering an all-encompassing definition of “natural” that includes total transparency, so it’s finally possible to make informed decisions,” the brand states on their website.

All of Ingreendients’ formulas are 100% plant-based, but it doesn’t just end at responsible formulas. Their packaging is made from 100% recycled plastics and is also 100% recyclable. “We’re maximizing sustainability through the whole product life cycle—from how it’s made to where it ends up.”

My Review of Ingreendients

Recently, I tried their Hair Care Bundle ($35.95) which includes their Daily Shampoo and Conditioner. Immediately upon opening the bottle I could tell I was going to love the scent. Both products have hints of coconut rounded out with an intoxicating blend of essential oils—I simply couldn’t get enough.

As someone who has tried her fair share of “natural” shampoos, I was also very impressed with the lather. I know, I know, shampoo doesn’t have to lather to be good for your scalp, but I’ve Pavloved myself into believing that the bigger the lather, the better the clean, and this shampoo gave me the good, sudsy lather that consumers like me crave.

I was left with a slightly squeaky feeling after my first rinse, as is true with many of the natural shampoos I’ve tried in the past, but the conditioner compensated for this with its rich, nourishing formula which left my hair feeling silky-smooth.

As someone with an incredibly dry scalp, the only downside that I experienced was that I was noticeably flakier a few days in than I typically am when using my prescription formula. That being said, I was really impressed with the brand’s transparency and I felt good about the ingredients in both products.

I finally found a natural shampoo with my ideal level of lather and I’m absolutely head over heels for the scent of the conditioner. I’ll definitely be adding Ingreendients to my hair care rotation, and because I want to smell like this from tip to toe, I’ve already added the body wash to my shopping cart.

If you’re searching for a cleaner alternative to your current hair care routine, I encourage you to “protect what’s precious,” and give Ingreendients a shot.
