Clayton Hawkins on Cristin Milioti’s ‘Snatched’ Updo Giving a Nod to ‘The Penguin’

01/05/2025

First-time Golden Globe nominee Cristin Milioti only plays a character who can’t catch a break on Max’s monster-hit ‘The Penguin.’ In real life, the actor-singer is hitting her stride, serving looks on press tours and the red carpet, like tonight’s, thanks to top-tier talent like celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins.

The Tease connected with Hawkins and he generously shared exactly how he styled Milioti’s hair for the Golden Globes 2025. Read on for a detailed breakdown including how elements of the red carpet hairstyle were inspired by Milioti’s show, but not Sofia Falcone. Trust us, it’s worth it.

Get the Look:

  1. “I wanted the nominee’s hair to be sleek and snatched. I started by blow drying her damp hair with my L’Oréal Airlight Pro. Because the blowdryer uses infared light technology, I didn’t have to even use a flat iron to get it silky afterwards. It was already super shiny. I then snatched her hair into a ponytail with a bungee elastic.
  2. Next I grabbed my K18 Molecular Hair Oil, coated her ponytail in it, and then twisted small sections to create an intricate updo.
    • Pro tip: always use matte hairpins for updos so they don’t reflect shine on the carpet.
  3. Once the I was done shaping the knots, I pulled out some spiky pieces to leave out. I wanted these to feel like feathers as a subtle nod to her show. And, yes, penguins DO have feathers, lol. The final result is clean, sleek, snatched perfection. If I do say so myself.”

We couldn’t agree more. Perfection!
