If there’s one celebrity we can always count on to deliver a seriously good hair look at an awards show, it’s Miley Cyrus.
Case in point: Cyrus hit the 2025 Oscars red carpet wearing a sparkling black halter gown by Alexander McQueen with bleached brows and big bombshell waves. According to the man responsible for her gorgeous hair, celebrity hairstylist Bob Recine, the singer’s voluminous hair was inspired by the ‘70s model Jerry Hall and the Jessica Rabbit. Recine wanted to not only highlight Cyrus’ ultra-chic Alexander McQueen gown as well as the glamorous nature of the Oscars, but also bring the star’s natural beauty to life with a sexy Old Hollywood hairstyle. Naturally, he totally nailed it with this hairstyle!
The Tease was lucky enough to get all the details from Recine on how he created Cyrus’ Jessica Rabbit-inspired waves—including the Nexxus products that were key to bringing the look to life. Keep scrolling for the complete look breakdown.
Get the Look:
- Recine had Miley start with hair straight out of the shower and added a generous amount of Nexxus Volume Medium Hold Mousse, saturating the strands from root to tip and using the mousse to set his base.
- Recine then used his technique of the “convertible blow dry”, which is exactly how it sounds. Recine used a blow dryer, no brushes or combing, and blow dried the hair as if Miley is in a convertible with the roof top down — over directing her hair. This technique is what gives all his styles an instant voluminous lift. He continued this method until the strands were completely dry.
- He then created a hard part, using the Nexxus Volume Medium Hold Mousse, to secure strands, before touching the rest of her hair.
- Once parted, he took the hair section by section, prepping strands with the XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray, and used a medium barrel curling iron to create a marcel wave curl. *NOT a barrel curl*.
- Using a round brush, he continued to curl strands from the root to frame her face with the Jessica Rabbit styled touch.
- Once strands are curled, Miley flips her head upside down for Recine to brush the hair out very vigorously. Once she flips back over, he secures the curls with the XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray to hold them in place for the whole evening.
- To finish the look, he coated strands in the Repair & Nourish Ultra Lightweight Hair Oil to give it its glass finish.
