Celebrity Hairstylist Aviva Perea Spills All the Details on America Ferrera’s Chic Oscars Bob

03/11/2024

The Barbie cast has continuously stunned on this season’s red carpets in Mattel-worthy ensembles, and for America Ferrera, last night’s Oscars was no different. Ferrera turned heads in a sparkly pink Versace gown, which was complemented by her glamorous, side swept bob. Her doll-like hair look came courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Aviva Perea, who let us in on the inspiration behind the timeless bob.

“The breathtaking dress has almost a super shine to it with a liquid shift to the fabric,” says Perea.” It is truly wearable art. To counterbalance the glamor of the dress, we decided as a team to go in a direction with her glam that is more effortless, timeless, and something that enhances her natural beauty.”

The Tease was lucky enough to get Perea to share the step-by-step details on how she styled Ferrera’s hair for the 2024 Oscars using ghd hair tools. Keep scrolling for her complete breakdown!

Get the Look:

  1. Begin with mostly air-dried hair and prep with an anti-frizz spray before blow drying. Then, dry the hair with the ghd Helios Hairdryer ($279) and concentrate the nozzle at the roots to add volume. Speaking on the hair dryer, Perea shared, “This blow dryer has taken center stage in my kit because I can customize the power and temperature controls so easily and effectively and the iconic technology helps with frizz control, which on long award days where I’m not there to do touch ups is super important to me.”
  2. Once the hair was dry, Perea enhanced Fererra’s natural waves by alternating between the ghd Chronos Styler ($329) and ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron($209). According to Aviva Perea, “The key to an effortless bend in the hair is to alternate between the two irons. With the ghd Chronos Styler ($329), I zig zag down one inch sections of hair holding the iron horizontally and with the ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron ($209), I take the same size sections and weave the iron perpendicular to the floor.  This will create super soft bends to the hair that won’t look overdone or fussy. I love that I don’t have to worry about selecting a heat setting because the ghd tools are set at 365F degrees, and the heat is equally distributed throughout the barrel to always ensure consistent heat.”
  3. Lastly, finish the look with hair oil and texture spray for added shine.
