Behind the Chair to Education Leader: Missy Jacobs’ Path to Driving Success for WAHL

From a young age, Jacobs knew her passion lay in the beauty world. Drawing inspiration from early internet and magazine images, she even developed her own DIY portfolio. With the support of her parents, she followed her passion and attended cosmetology school. 

Jacobs shares, “Immediately, when I started cosmetology, I knew it was where I needed to be; it was my people.” 

She began her career working for a major company that was only four years at the time – an opportunity she credits as the foundation of her career. Her firsthand experience behind the chair allowed her to transition to education.

When it comes to educating, Jacobs’ philosophy is, “I’m not here to teach you what to think; I’m here to share with you how to think.”

Reflecting on her early years as an educator, Jacobs says, “I think what’s really interesting is that I actually started in the industry when I was really young. And so, walking into a room with established people who had definitely been in there a lot longer than me and definitely knew a lot more than me, I really had to find my footing and where I could be credible”.

After nearly 20 years with the same company, Jacobs faced a gut-wrenching moment when COVID-19 led to her layoff. Rather than letting this difficult turn of events define her, she shares how she used this as an opportunity to refind herself and give back to others in need. 

With her love reignited after a voluntary year-long break, Jacobs re-entered the beauty education field with WAHL, where she now excels as North American Education Lead.

“WAHL, number one, has been around for over 100 years. So, that can be a testament to the quality of the products, the quality of the company, and also the quality of just the brand in itself”.
