“Cereal Entrepreneur,” as she jokingly refers to herself in her IG bio, Jen Atkin, is a staple in beauty. Atkin came into most of our lives via her high profile celebrity clients, but has pivoted in impressive ways since those days, using earned visibility to build cult brand Ouai, and various other companies. She was among the first founders to embrace social media with open arms and cultivated an enviably approachable persona with her willingness to poll followers about decisions she was making both professionally and personally.
Taking to Instagram several days ago, Atkin shared that she, like thousands of others in LA county and the surrounding area, lost her home to the wildfires. Her carousel post shows the home that featured so prominently in years of posts reduced to rubble.
In a follow-up post, published yesterday, Atkin wrote, “After now losing our home we worked so hard for, and decades of belongings, I can now warn others to prepare for disaster. Have a plan. Get to really know and care for your neighbors, as ours are all holding one another up rn.” She closed with, “As time moves on and we get back to our busy distracted lives, please don’t forget your kindness and compassion you feel so strongly rn.
