In potentially upsetting news, the new year is quite literally just days away. Well, weeks away at this point, but there’s no sense in denying that it’s coming. And with it, a host of newness! But what can we expect for 2025’s biggest hair color trends?
Will we be seeing more lived-in color? Will Cowboy Copper’s reign finally end? Are pastels going to be huge in the fall? The Tease tapped two veteran hair colorists, and Schwarzkopf Professional Ambassadors, Brendnetta Ashley and Carly Zanoni for their predictions. Read on for their recap on 2024 and what they expect next year.
Brendnetta Ashley’s 2025 Hair Color Predictions
According to Ashley, “2024 was all about bringing warmth back into hair.” She says “Caramel Balayage” was among her favorite trends because, “it includes a deeper base with golden tones and warm blonde.” She adds, “This is a good color concept that can be worn by many and it looks great on both straight and curly hair.
As far as 2025 goes, Ashley thinks “a top color trend will be the return of the ombré.” You read that right! But don’t expect the early aughts ombré… Ashley’s prediction is “a lower maintenance color service with the roots remaining darker.” She clarifies, “to make it current I think it will have more of a blend instead of a hard line of demarcation.”
Carly Zanoni’s 2025 Hair Color Predictions
Zanoni agrees that 2024 “was the year that warmth made its return!” She says, “We finally saw a major shift towards warmer blondes, more brondes and bronze tones, and REDS! (Hello Cowboy Copper!) There was even a raw blonde moment where buttery, natural lift was embraced.”
For 2025, Zanoni is connecting the dots between hair color ideas and popular culture. “Pantone just announced that the color of the year for 2025 is mocha, and I think it is spot on for what kinds of trends we will be seeing this year in hair,” she says. Her prediction? “A shift towards more muted, even more natural looking blends. I think people will be leaning heavily into really soft and subtle dimension with an infusion of some cooler tones back into blondes and brunettes!”
So, what do you think? Will these be 2025’s biggest hair color trends? Only time will tell.
