Actress-comedian-singer Maya Rudolph was already a 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards winner for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance when she hit the ’24 Emmys red carpet last night and she looked it! Basically, mother mothered.
Working with celebrity hairstylist, and longtime collaborator, John D, Rudolph’s hair was center parted with soft brushed out waves. Of the look, John said, “The inspiration for Maya’s glam was Chloe girl chic. Think witchy Stevie Nicks, meets cool, effortless French girl energy.” There was nothing funny about how good she looked. And we needed to know everything!

Get the Look:
- “I started by prepping towel dried hair using a combo of the JVN Complete Blowout Styling Milk and the JVN Complete Instant Recovery Serum. Just a couple of pumps of the Blowout Milk and a dollop of the Recovery Serum emulsified together in my palms and raked throughout the hair to ensure full coverage. The blowout milk nourishes and smoothes while the serum protects against heat, leaving the final look silky and smooth.
- Follow through by drying the hair thoroughly. I used a vented ceramic round brush for extra tension and smoothing while drying.
- To create the soft wave pattern in the hair I used a 1” curling iron, building body and movement throughout the head.
- Once curling was finished I allowed the waves to cool and set. Once cooled I used about a half of a dropper worth of the JVN Complete Nourishing Shine Drops in the palm of my hands then raked my hands through her hair, starting in the back and working throughout. This really helps to break up and loosen the waves. Leaving them looking silky and glossy. These drops are silicone free and won’t weigh the hair down allowing for the final style to be full and soft.
- To finish off the style I used a bit of strong hold hairspray to keep the hair around the face defined and locked into place.”
John added, “The result was a gorgeous body wave that felt airy and elegant to pair perfectly with the final look.” We could not agree more!
