Houston-based fashion label Negris LeBrum had a lot to celebrate this fashion week. With the release of its Spring/Summer 23 collection, the luxury brand marked 10 years of appearing on the runway at NYFW.
Rooted in the history and culture of America, Negris LeBrum was founded by Travis Hamilton who was inspired by a beautiful 1940s love story between a bi-racial French Creole woman named Negris and a Black man, Sam LeBrum. Despite their union being forbidden by society, the pair were brought together by the force of love. Now, through Hamilton’s powerful designs, their love story is being shared with the world.
For the label’s latest collection, titled “Black to Basics”, the brand highlighted their signature color, black, along with luscious red silk satins and silk chiffons, creating a truly perfect collab of colors.
The Look
Seemingly taking inspiration from the brand’s 1940s roots, lead hairstylist and Wella Global Top Artist Aubrey Loots dreamed up some gorgeous retro hair that paid homage to a classic ‘40s victory roll. To create this vintage-inspired hairstyle, Loots and his team relied heavily on products from hair sponsors, Wella Professionals and GHD.
The Products
“I prepped the models’ hair with GHD Straight On ($25.00). It’s a straight and smoothing spray. I’m obsessed!” Loot shares. “And then I also used Stay Essential ($14.95) which is a working hairspray from Wella Professionals.”

As for how Loots created this modern-take on a ‘40s victory roll, he says he first sectioned the hair in the front—kind of like a “horseshoe section”—to house the roll. Once that’s done, he brushes all of hair smooth, using the Wella Stay Essential spray as he goes. Then, the remaining hair is scooped into a “kind of classic French Twist in the back.”
