Hairstylists, brace yourselves! Amazon has its eyes set on conquering a whole new market — the hair world.
The retail giant recently announced that it will be launching its first-ever hair salon, called Amazon Salon. Located in London’s trendy Spitafield district, the 1,500 square-foot salon space will be spread out across two floors and in true Amazon fashion, will feature the latest in industry technology, from augmented reality (AR) hair consultations to point-and-learn technology.
So, just what will a hair appointment by Amazon look like? Well, for starters, customers will be able to virtually “try on” different hair colors before taking the plunge thanks to AR, while enjoying entertainment from the built-in Fire tablets at each styling station.
Not to mention, product information will literally be at your fingertips thanks to the salon’s point-and-learn technology. According to their press release, customers simply have to point a product on a display shelf and relevant information, including brand videos and educational content, will appear on a screen. The best part? To place an order, all you have to do is scan a QR code to make your purchase and Amazon will deliver it straight to your door.
“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK Country Manager, in a press statement. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”
Aside from all the high-tech features, actual hairdressing for the salon will be provided by Elena Lavagni and her team of stylists from the highly-regarded Neville Hair & Beauty Salon. They will be providing a full range of hair services — for adults and children, alike — including cuts, styling, blow drys, full head highlights, balayage, braids, and texturizing treatments.
“I am delighted to be part of this project — the salon combines classic hairdressing services with technology to deliver a completely unique experience for clients,” said Lavagni. “Our creative team of stylists, whose flair for hair is as intrinsic as their love for technology, will put the client at the heart of everything they do. I feel proud to use our 40 years’ experience in the industry to help bring the salon to life.”
At the moment, Amazon Salon will only be open to Amazon employees, but hopes to be available to the public “in coming weeks”, according to its press release. In the meantime, we highly recommend following @amazonsalonuk on Instagram for all further updates!
