Part of becoming a true ally for the Black community is supporting and amplifying Black artists. Whether you’re just looking to add more diverse stylists to your feed or want to learn more about different hair types and textures, we’ve got you covered with this list.
Here are twelve Black hairstylists you should have on your radar.
Ursula Stephen
Ursula Stephen is the hairstylist behind some of our favorite looks from celebrities like Zendaya, Angela Bassett and Tiffany Haddish. When she’s not styling hair for photoshoots and red carpets, she’s lending her craft to clients at her salon in Brooklyn, NY.
Vernon François
One stylist constantly encouraging the industry to be educated on all hair types and textures is Vernon François. Not only does he advocate for Black hair, but the longtime stylist’s talent is unmatched. Many of Lupita Nyong’o’s iconic hair moments are thanks to François!
Larry Sims
Larry Sims was first introduced to the entertainment world through his work as a professional dancer and choreographer. However, hair is where his heart has always been, and we couldn’t be more thankful! He’s now styled some of the biggest celebs, like Gabrielle Union, Jaz Sinclair, Danai Gurira and many more.
Nikki Nelms
Another stylist worth following is Nikki Nelms. Without her, we wouldn’t have some of the most memorable hair moments from Solange, Zoë Kravitz and Yara Shahidi. Remember Janelle Monae at the 2020 Academy Awards? That was thanks to Nelms!
Yusef Williams
Yusef Williams is the hands behind Rihanna‘s luscious locks. He’s also offered his styling talents to Normani, Lizzo and other stars. In addition to being a celebrity hairstylist, Williams also works with Factory Downtown Studio to showcase his incredible work.
Coree Moreno
Coree Moreno has lent his hairstyling talent to many—most notably, Cynthia Erivo. When he isn’t prepping Erivo for red carpets and magazine covers, he’s sharing his favorite styling products and tools with his 9K+ followers.
Takisha Sturdivant-Drew
Takisha Sturdivant-Drew can style hair for anything; red carpets, interviews, editorial spreads—she’s there! Not to mention, her impressive client list includes Kerry Washington, Ashleigh Murray, Nesta Cooper and more.

Some of Maya Rudolph, Dakota Johnson and Daniel Craig’s best hair moments are thanks to stylist Johnnie Sapong. In addition to styling A-list celebs, Sapong also works on set for editorial spreads and is a brand ambassador for Leonor Greyl.
Lacy Redway
Thanks to Lacy Redway, we have been gifted with some of the most elegant and intricate hairstyles on some of the biggest stars. For example, Tessa Thompson, Zazie Beetz, Jourdan Dunn and Anne Hathaway—just to name a few. If you like seeing red carpet BTS, Redway is definitely worth the follow.
Kendall Dorsey
Another stylist to get on your radar is Kendall Dorsey. As one of Yara Shahidi and Solange’s go-to hairstylists, Dorsey knows what he’s doing. Not to mention, he’s also a hair care educator for Oribe.

Along with being the Global Artistic Director for Mizani, Tippi Shorter is a celebrity hairstylist, working with celebs like Alicia Keys and Taraji P Henson. Additionally, Shorter specializes in textured hair and continuously advocates for it.
