Celebrity Hairstylist Christopher Naselli Shares How to Recreate Rashida Jones’ Effortless Waves

07/17/2024

“After almost a year and a half of not seeing Rashida, because she was filming her new show in Japan, I arrived to find her hair halfway down her back. I’ve been so used to her having the super chic bobs and lobs so it was nice to see her with her long hair again,” said celebrity hairstylist Christopher Naselli.

Since Rashida Jones rocks her signature short hair in the show in question — “Sunny” for Apple TV — so, we, too, were shocked to see her with major inches for a recent appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” Naturally we got in touch with Naselli for the inside scoop on the look and he graciously shared a detailed breakdown.

Get the Look:

  1. “To achieve her look I always start with my favorite root spray by Rōz. I apply to roots and mid shaft and use my fingers to massage and distribute the product evenly around the head.
  2. I use my Mason Pearson detangling brush to brush out any knots and make a center part.  Using tail comb I tsection out her fringe.  Because of a few cowlicks and the texture of her hair I use a few pumps of Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer from Color Wow directly on her fringe.
  3. I always start by blow drying her fringe first.  Using my favorite blowdryer from Edrée, if you don’t know this brand you need to check them out.
  4. Using a medium size brush I start to dry her fringe in the center then work my way to both sides.  When I have them completely dry, I lightly and loosely clip them to the side to maintain the volume, this will also help from preventing and middle separation.
  5. After I finish blow drying the whole head, I start taking 2 inch sections around the whole head and wrapping them around an inch and a quarter barrel curling iron, I focusing on mid shaft to ends and of course I’m using my favorite Edrée curling wand.
  6. After the waves have cooled, I  lightly comb through the waves with a white tooth comb and spray with a soft hold hairspray.  Unclip the bangs and comb them out gently and give them a light mist as well.”
